WHAT IT IS

A web platform designed for an independent legal association : Préserve Ton Droit, allowing users to learn about their rights and easily request legal assistance online.

OBJECTIVES

The association needed a digital tool to centralize legal resources and facilitate contact, while providing a reassuring and accessible interface for users often in stressful situations.

MY ROLE

UX/UI & Graphic Designer (Freelance)

Site architecture, design system, visual identity adaptation, and creation of seamless user flows for information access.

THE PROBLEM

Primary users
  • Individuals facing legal issues and lacking knowledge of their rights

  • Young adults & general public seeking accessible and understandable legal information

  • Potential donors, volunteers & engaged citizens willing to support or contribute to the association

Their constraints
  • Difficulty in understanding complex legal information

  • Lack of access to affordable legal support

  • Low awareness of existing rights and procedures

  • Need for clear, trustworthy, and accessible guidance

  • Need visibility of the association’s missions, impact, and credibility

Designing a digital platform for a legal & humanitarian association comes with specific challenges:

Making legal information accessible and educational

Showcasing the association’s missions, actions, and impact in a clear and engaging way

Building trust and legitimacy to reassure users

Creating seamless paths for engagement (donations, volunteering, participation)

Balancing informational content, support services, and community involvement

The challenge was to design a platform that both democratizes access to legal knowledge and drives engagement around the association’s mission.
How might we make legal support accessible & trustworthy while showcasing the association’s impact and encouraging users to take action (seek help, donate, or get involved)?
I first conducted competitive research by analyzing major non-profit and humanitarian websites such as Croix-Rouge, Emmaüs, and Restos du Cœur.

1

Clear calls-to-action: emphasis on immediate engagement (donate, act, join) directly from the homepage & header.

2

Human-centered storytelling: use of photos of real people, emotions, and impact-driven visuals to build trust.

3

Structured navigation: organized header with clear sections (missions, actions, contact) & CTA (donate, join).

My research then focused on smaller or minimalist NGO websites with simplified structures, such as Les Déterminés and La Courte Échelle.

1

Simplicity & clarity: light interfaces with straightforward messaging and reduced cognitive load

2

Accessibility of content: short texts, educational & engaging tone, and less institutional language

KEY OBSERVATIONS

Clarity & messaging

  • A clear, human, and emotional message is key to immediate understanding

  • The main CTA must reflect the core mission (e.g. Croix-Rouge = “Donate”, PTD = “I need help”)

Trust & credibility

  • Real elements (human visuals, testimonials, impact figures) build trust

  • A warm, non-institutional tone makes content more accessible, especially legal content.

Navigation & experience

  • Simple and intuitive navigation helps users quickly access key actions: get help, donate, or get involved

  • Short and reassuring forms for less friction and drop-off

The website must combine:

  • a human and emotional approach to gain trust and make legal topics understandable

  • a mission-driven CTA focused to help users take action quickly (e.g. “I need help”)

  • accessible and structured content (clear sections, simple language) to reduce complexity

  • trust-building elements (testimonials, human visuals, real metrics) for credibility

  • guided and frictionless user flows (clear entry points, minimal forms, contextual actions) to encourage engagement

The core goal of non-profit websites is to turn users into actors: by building trust and reducing friction, they encourage users to seek help, donate, or engage with the cause.

USER TESTING

Testing set up

We tested the prototype with 7 users to evaluate clarity, navigation, and trust. The goal was to understand whether users could quickly grasp the purpose of the platform and take action (get help, learn, or support).

Testing confirmed several key assumptions, while highlighting a few critical trust and clarity issues that needed to be addressed.

5 / 5 — What worked

  • Clarity of the value proposition

Most users immediately understood the purpose of the platform: providing legal help and accessible information

  • Navigation and accessibility

100% of users found the navigation intuitive or very intuitive

  • Access to key actions

Users were able to easily find core features such as legal content and help request

  • Overall credibility

All users perceived the platform as professional and trustworthy

  • Recommendation intent

The majority of users said they would recommend the platform (71% gave the highest rating)

4 / 5 — What needed improvement

  • Visual identity & perception

The interface felt too institutional and cold, with an overuse of blue tones giving the impression of a corporate/healthcare website, rather than a human and supportive association

  • Quiz experience (progress tracking)

Several users expected their results and progress to be saved. The lack of persistence reduced the feature’s value and long-term engagement

  • Content quality & details

Minor structure issues were perceived as damaging credibility

  • Hierarchy of actions

Certain key actions (e.g. donation) were not visible enough

“The website provides support and legal information to help people understand and defend their rights in their daily lives, while also carrying out solidarity and volunteer initiatives.”

User test participant, answering the question: “In one sentence, what does this website offer according to you?”

Key insight

The most important takeaway was clear: Trust is the primary driver of engagement.

Even small details (visual quality, wording, structure) can significantly impact whether users feel confident enough to ask for help or support the association.

User testing revealed that while the platform was globally clear and usable, trust and clarity gaps were strong enough to impact engagement.

ITERATIONS

1

From institutional to human: rethinking the visual identity

Several users perceived the interface as too institutional and cold, mainly due to an overuse of blue tones and a generic picture.

The monochromatic palette gave the impression of a corporate or healthcare website, which did not align with the association’s human and supportive mission.

We therefore introduced a more diverse and vibrant color palette while keeping the official blue color of the association and added softer tones and contrasts to create warmth

This shift helped move the perception from a formal institution to a supportive and accessible organization.

Before

After

2

From exploration to long-term engagement

One key limitation emerged around the quiz experience:

users engaged with the content, but no progress or results were saved, reducing long-term value.

We therefore explored:

  • Introducing a personal space to track progress

  • Saving quiz results and user interactions over time

  • Creating a sense of progression and continuity

The objective was to move from a one-time interaction to a continuous learning and engagement experience.

After

3

Clarifying and prioritizing key actions

Testing showed that some secondary features, such as donating or getting involved, were not visible enough.

We therefore:

  • Reinforced the primary CTA (“Get help”) across the interface with a dedicated section, and assigned it a distinct color to make it immediately stand out

  • Added a dedicated section in the header for secondary actions (Donate, Quiz, FAQ) to make them more accessible and visible

The goal was to shift from a content-first experience to a more action-driven and intuitive flow.

OUTCOME

The platform delivers a clear, accessible, and action-oriented experience, making legal support easier to understand and reach.

Today, the website acts as a reliable entry point for users seeking help, learning about their rights, or engaging with the association, while also serving as a communication platform to showcase ongoing projects, share updates, and highlight the association’s impact.

PERSPECTIVES

Several directions will be explored as the project evolves:

  • Introducing a case tracking dashboard to let users follow the progress of their legal requests (status, timeline, notifications)

  • Developing a psychological support channel for vulnerable users (anonymous contact, fast routing to professionals or trained volunteers)

  • Strengthening engagement through user accounts and personalized experiences (saved progress, follow-ups, dashboard)
